Adam Proteau: The case for a Jagr Appreciation Night in every NHL market next year Jaromir Jagr announced Thursday he had re-signed with the Florida Panthers to play his 24th NHL season next year. And the Czech winger's living legend status and incredible longevity is giving the league a chance to do something special – saying goodbye to him in all 30 markets in an unforgettable, entertaining way.

Pittsburgh does need a Jagr night, but the rest of the league? Come on. I still hate the idea of 99 being retired for EVERY team....
Pittsburgh needs a Jagr night to reconcile with him and their fans over the bad blood spilled upon his exit and return to NHL. His 68 needs to be retired right next to the 66 up in Consol Energy Center

Seems like a bad idea since he probably isn't going to retire after the season's over.

Doing an appreciation night almost encourages him to retire, which he shouldn't!

Hmmm no , I find those kind of events cheesy , it's enough that Rivera, Jetter and now Ortiz are all got/getting the farewell tour treatment.

I'm actually fine with the farewell tour thing. But, it shouldn't be until their last season. Since he's not going to be done after the year, it will be weird to do a night, then see him light the lamp against your team the following year.

That (frank)er won't retire until he's 50.... And that makes me happy.

They may as well have made that kind of ceremonial tribute to Gretzky, because no matter what no one in their right mind would ever wear that number again anyway. I don't think teams would ever let a player wear that anyway, even if they could.
